Should Retired Police Officers...

Should retired police officers still be allowed to carry guns on them? What do you think?

Today, the use and carry of firearms by retired police officers is widely accepted in the United States. However, it was not long ago that many states had no laws that specifically allowed retired police officers to carry firearms either in the states they served or the states where they resided.

They are now allowed intrastate travel of concealed firearms.

  1. I think that as long as they are trained, why not. They can help out when there is a need.

  3. I don't know if this is a good idea. Suppose they show up at a crime scene with a gun and get shot by the police because they have no uniform on?

  4. Retired officers should be able to carry a gun for their own personal safety. As long as they keep up to date with training and have mental evaluations every few years I don't see a problem with it.

  5. Didn't that recently happen when an off duty officer was killed when he drawed his gun?

  6. I think its a good idea, the retired officer need to qualify on the same course as the active police officers do. They need to maintain training and proficiency to continue their ability to carry a weapon while being retired.
